Doreen
Cambridge International held its first ever face-to-face training events for Cambridge exams officers from the East Asia region last month. Demand was so high that we decided to run the training sessions twice on consecutive days.
In total 115 exams officers from 86 schools across East Asia joined us for the training in a warm and sunlit Guangzhou in China on 6 to 7 December 2019. Amy Cook, Cambridge International’s Training Coordinator for Exams Officers, talked in detail about the six phases of the Cambridge Exams Cycle, and our support for exams officers.
The exams officer role is of paramount importance for a Cambridge school. Cambridge exams would not be possible without exams officers and their work is very intricate.
Delegates explored lots of key issues and how to deal with the unexpected, such as:
- You received a phone call from a parent telling you a candidate is sick and so cannot attend the exam as planned
- An earthquake happened during an exam
- A candidate arrived late for an exam
It is not unusual for exams officers to find themselves in all sorts of emergencies, and peer support can be one of the most useful ways to get help. In the training, three exams officers – Weiwei Zheng from Vanke Meisha Academy, Qiwen Tang from ULink College Guangzhou, and Shumin Liu from Huanggang Middle School Guangzhou Branch – shared their experiences of managing Cambridge exams. ULink College Guangzhou, our host school, also kindly offered delegates an informative tour of their security storage for exams materials. We would like to express our immense thanks for the generous support of ULink College Guangzhou, and the three exams officers and their respective schools.
We have also gained a deeper understanding of the day-to-day work of exams officers through the training, and so would like to give our sincere accolades to them. Their hard work is indispensable to students’ achieving their exam results and fulfilling their dreams.
We are pleased to have received positive feedback from the delegates. Doreen from YK PAO School in Shanghai said: 'This face-to-face training was amazing! There was a true sense of community and belonging.' It is such encouragement that keeps us striding forward to deliver better support for Cambridge schools.
So the key question is, when will the next Cambridge exams officer training take place? We plan to continue to hold face-to-face training events for exams officers this year and will notify all exams officers from the East Asia region in due course. Please follow us on WeChat: Cambridge_China, and keep an eye out for our email notification. See you around!
