Print accessibility

We work to make sure all assessments and printed resources such as textbooks, as well as other teaching and learning materials, are formatted so they are as accessible as possible. We consider the layout and readability of all our materials – for example, using consistent font size and style. We also check visual sources, such as photos, diagrams or graphs to make sure key features are clearly distinguishable. This helps everyone, not only SEND learners.

• developed more accessible textbook design templates
• introduced formatting changes to include left alignments of text and reduced the use of italics and underlining
• introduced anchored images and alt text in textbooks
• focussed on improving the accessibility of visual elements such as better colour and grayscale contrast ratios
• considered how layout and formatting decisions may work when printed materials are converted to digital.
