Barbara Prevosti works in International Recruitment at Bocconi University. Here she tells us a bit more about the University and why it is an excellent choice for international students.
About Bocconi University
‘Bocconi was the first university in Italy that granted a degree in Economics, and it was founded by an entrepreneur. Bocconi is recognised internationally for its academic excellence and research in the social sciences, particularly economics, management, finance, political science, data science and legal studies.
‘One of the biggest assets of Bocconi is the quality of teaching. Students also enjoy the career opportunities and extra activities that the University provides, which represent an added value to the curriculum.
‘Our economics, management and finance programmes are among the best in the world. The QS World University Rankings listed us among the 10 best institutions in Europe in these fields, while the Financial Times ranks our master’s degrees in finance and management among the top 10 worldwide. We keep our offer in step with an ever-changing society: programmes that delve into data analysis and political science create new career opportunities.’
International students
‘46% of our students in our English-taught BSc programmes are international. They come from the USA, Turkey, the UK, France, Switzerland and Eastern Europe. We try to attract students from all over the world. On our campus we have more than 100 nationalities!’
Scholarships and other incentives
‘In terms of facilities we offer, we have seven student dormitories, as well as different scholarship models. Bocconi has always been committed to making higher education available to all motivated and talented students through a financial aid system. The ‘Bocconi4Access to Education’ support scheme aims at favouring access to a plural environment, to an open and accessible university for students who share progress, plurality and inclusion as fundamental values for their personal, cultural and professional growth.
‘Opportunities may vary from year to year based in part on the funds made available by donors to the University.’
Cambridge students
‘We receive applications from students with Cambridge qualifications (Cambridge International A Levels, Cambridge IGCSEs) very often. We can say that in every admission cycle a good proportion of applicants have at least one of these qualifications.
‘Cambridge qualifications help students acquire sound knowledge in specialised fields relevant to our degree programmes, such as maths and other quantitative subjects. Also, we find that they are already familiar with the assessment methodology used at university level, such as a major examination for each subject.
‘The syllabuses of Cambridge examinations, moreover, have been created specifically for international students, avoiding cultural bias.
‘We are aware of the high standards adopted by Cambridge qualifications. These qualifications are known worldwide and Cambridge students are often already immersed in an international reality which is, in part, what we look for in candidates.’
Why should Cambridge students choose Bocconi?
‘Milan is the most international city in Italy. You will be surrounded by students from all over the world and enjoy a truly Italian experience.
‘Studying at Bocconi means choosing from a wide range of innovative programmes of study, not only in the disciplinary areas of economics, management, finance and law, but also in complementary fields, such as political science and data science and maths for AI. It also means becoming part of a truly international community, with students and faculty from all over the world, getting in touch with the world of work right away, and having the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad.
