Special consideration is a post-exam adjustment that we make to a candidate's mark to make allowances for some adverse circumstances, for example illness, bereavement, temporary injury or disruption to an exam.
The following categories of special consideration are available for candidates not affected by Covid-19.
- present but disadvantaged candidates. Apply for this after the exam has taken place.
- candidates absent from a component for acceptable reasons. Apply for this after the exam has taken place.
- coursework-related special consideration not related to the published component adjustments for November 2022.
For more information, visit the special consideration page.
To apply, go to the ‘Special Consideration’ area of Cambridge International Direct.
Unexpected Covid-19 impact
If your candidate(s) is ill or in quarantine on the day of the exam due to Covid-19 and/or your centre is forced to close on exam day, or at short notice just beforehand your candidates may be eligible for special consideration – absent for an acceptable reason.
For more information, see our special-consideration page.
To apply, go to the ‘Special Consideration’ area of Cambridge International Direct.
Candidates who, for acceptable reasons, miss some components they were entered for can still receive a syllabus grade as long as they have taken at least one component in a syllabus. There are some exceptions to this and these are listed in details on the November 2022 special consideration page.
This is a temporary measure in response to the pandemic. You apply in the usual way, via Direct using Exam Day - Form 7.
