Today’s update includes information on the new and existing resources from across the Cambridge family to support teachers and school leaders, particularly in relation to adapting teaching methods.
We are including more details of our process for awarding grades in the June 2020 series. This includes a link to a factsheet on the statistical standardisation process, as well as details on post-results checks and appeals. It also includes a link to a blog post on comparisons between predicted grades and historical performance data.
We will send our next update to schools on 5 August 2020.

Our statistical standardisation process – June 2020
We have already explained the steps that we will take to award grades in June 2020. Statistical standardisation is the fourth and final step of our process.
This factsheet includes the latest update on our statistical standardisation process and explains its different stages.
We plan to release more details about our standardisation, including the formula we are using in the process, in the week of 10 August 2020.
Post-results checks and appeals
The post-results checks available to schools for the June 2020 series are different from those available in a normal series. We have three post-results checks that allow you to check the results we have calculated for your candidates in three different scenarios:
- Post-results check service 1: A review of the judgements made in the statistical standardisation of syllabuses assessed for the first time at this level in the June 2020 exam series, including a check that the statistical standardisation calculation has been applied correctly, and a report.
- Post-results check service 2: Where a centre has a non-standard exam entry profile, as a consequence of a changed entry policy, you can ask us to review the way we have calculated candidates’ grades. This service includes a check that the statistical standardisation calculation has been applied correctly.
- Post-results check service 3: A check that the statistical standardisation calculation has been applied correctly.
The deadline for applying for post-results checks is 20 September 2020.
To support centres, we have produced a ‘Post-results checks and appeals for the June 2020 series’ supplement to the Cambridge Handbook. This contains more details about each of the post-results checks, and the two-stage appeals process. You can find this on our website along with all the key dates and deadlines:
Fees for post-results checks and appeals are available via Cambridge International Direct.
Comparing predicted grades for June 2020 with historic performance 2017-2019
Dr Anthony Dawson, Deputy Director, Assessment Standards and Quality, has written a blog post comparing teacher predicted grades with historical performance data, and explaining how the statistical standardisation process will be used to award final grades.
