On 8 and 10 October, we hosted our first Cambridge Schools Information Sessions in Blantyre and Lilongwe, Malawi. The event was attended by more than 60 delegates including teachers and school leaders and we shared the latest developments in the Cambridge curriculum and resources.
During the event, school leaders also had a chance to learn more about the Cambridge teacher standards and professional development support from Cambridge.
In Blantyre, a city in Malawi, the event was hosted by Central High International School and in Lilongwe, the sessions took place at Lilongwe Private School.
Speaking about the importance of the information sessions, Bernard Wanyonyi, Business Development Manager, at Cambridge, said: 'The event is designed to provide comprehensive information to leadership teams in Cambridge schools. Through this event, they will have a complete understanding of the offering from Cambridge.'
School leaders from across Malawi were excited to have an event that was informative and educative, and expressed their appreciation for the support from Cambridge.
Omega Kambalame, Examinations Officer at Saint Andrew’s International High School in Blantyre, said: ‘I now understand how important it is that the school leadership team use the five Cambridge teacher principles to support teachers.'
'The principles help school leaders to evaluate teaching and leadership practices in their schools, and identity areas where teacher standards have not been met and where there is a gap, either from the curriculum or teacher.
By doing this, teachers can receive the support they need through professional development trainings that will help them meet the curriculum standards set by Cambridge. This shall also reflect on student learning, examinations taken and the outcome of the results,’ she concluded.
Neilu Rawat, Headmistress of Jamia Islamia School also in Blantyre, summarised her experience after the event: 'The information session was incredibly well-organised and insightful. It provided a clear vision of how the Cambridge curriculum and its professional development programmes empower both students and educators. The opportunities for collaboration and ongoing support are key differentiators that truly set Cambridge apart. I left feeling confident in the value of the curriculum and excited about the prospects for future growth.'
