Primary students in Zimbabwe are benefitting from a new Innovation Hub thanks to a project designed to introduce them to technology and the life-changing opportunities it creates.
MATTER, a non-governmental organisation, and Jamf, a computer software company specialising in Apple management solutions, collaborated with Love for Africa to donate the Innovation Hub to Victoria Falls Primary School (a Cambridge International School in Zimbabwe), surrounding schools, and also the community.
As a portable learning environment, the MATTER Innovation Hub is outfitted with solar power and can be shipped and set up anywhere in the world. Utilising the latest technology, the classroom provides engaging and personalised learning for children and adults who otherwise would have limited access to education.
Bertus Viljoen, Headmaster at Victoria Falls Primary says the Hub has revolutionised learning at the school: 'It has become a firm favourite with all the learners and they look forward to their 'Hub Time'. We are privileged as a school to be strategically positioned to also be able to make The Hub available to four other schools from marginalised communities within Victoria Falls so that other learners can share in the same 21st century learning that our children now have.'
'This project is part of a grand vision,' says Dean Hager, CEO, Jamf. 'We want to get technology into the hands of kids as an avenue to a brighter future. It is our mission to not only introduce these kids to iPads, but more importantly, to get them excited about the possibilities that technology could bring into their lives.'
'Additionally, we’re specifically providing training on technology, because it can translate into job creation around the world.'
