Feyza Aribas, Head of English at TED Ankara College in Turkey, is proud to be involved with her school’s initiative to extend Cambridge qualifications to younger learners. She recently shared her experience with us.
‘TED Ankara College is one of the most established and reputable private schools in Turkey. Although we have been doing the Cambridge IGCSE programme in high school for some time, we have recently introduced Cambridge Secondary 1 to TED schools. In 5th grade, there are 575 students plus six experienced teachers developing the course. For two years we have implemented Cambridge Secondary 1. TED schools pride themselves on a modern and international education system offering a variety of universally accepted programmes. Having Cambridge Secondary 1 in our school allows students to further explore integrated skills and develop critical thinking skills to a good standard.
‘We decided to introduce the Cambridge Secondary 1 programme for students at an earlier age to develop the skills required for starting IGCSE. Teachers have embraced the course with a positive response, and students and their parents have a supportive attitude as they know how prestigious and beneficial this programme is.
‘Cambridge Secondary 1 provides in-depth support and interesting subject matter to learners. It encourages cross-curricular learning and widens students’ global knowledge and attitude to the world. Also, students have the chance to be creative and independent while improving their English skills.’
