Cambridge learners have diverse backgrounds and different experiences. Contextual and cultural accessibility are key to making sure that all learners can relate to and understand the examples and scenarios we present in both teaching and learning materials, and in assessments.
An assessment task or scenario in a textbook might be inaccessible to a learner because the context is unfamiliar. To maximise accessibility, we focus on contexts that are equally familiar to all learners, are relevant and support learning. We try to avoid contexts that different groups of learners could interpret differently, while promoting critical thinking around issues of diversity and inclusion.
We provide training in cultural awareness and the importance of considering cultural sensitivities to everyone working on assessment content and teaching and learning materials.
Our Getting started with guide and Education brief consider the theory and benefits of inclusive education and include practical tips to help you get started.
