Introduction
If your candidates took AS Level portfolio of evidence in the June 2022 series, you may have questions about how they will carry forward their AS Level credit to complete their A Levels in the November 2022 series. We explain the process on this page.
What entry option should candidates enter in the November 2022 series?
To allow candidates to complete their A Levels in the November 2022 series, you should choose the entry option which would apply if your candidates had taken the AS Level exams in the June 2022 series. This applies whether you choose a June carry-forward entry option or a best of both entry option.
In either case, the entry option in the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries will show the June carry-forward component as ‘June AS Mark (…) carried forward’ and list the exam components for the AS Level in the brackets. You should choose this entry option as you usually would; you do not need to do anything different. Once we receive the entries for your candidates, we will locate the AS Level portfolio of evidence component mark (usually component 50) to carry forward from the June 2022 series, instead of AS Level exam marks.
There are no separate entry options in our Guide to Making Entries to carry forward the AS Level portfolio of evidence mark.
If you are entering candidates for Cambridge A Level Mathematics (9709) or Further Mathematics (9231), you are advised to refer to the additional guidance for these syllabuses below.
Can candidates carry forward AS Level credit from a linear A Level portfolio of evidence from the June 2022 series?
✔ For a ‘50+60’ A Level portfolio of evidence
If the candidate’s A Level portfolio of evidence in the June 2022 series consisted of two components (50 and 60), the candidate can carry forward the mark from component 50 as AS Level credit towards a staged-route or best of both A Level. This is because the component 50 portfolio of evidence contained only AS Level evidence.
For A Level Mathematics (9709) and A Level Further Mathematics (9231), candidates can carry forward the mark from the AS Level component of their linear portfolio of evidence A Level from the June 2022 series. These is component 59 for 9709, and component 51 for 9231. There is more information about carrying forward an AS Level portfolio of evidence in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in the section below.
What entry option should candidates enter in the November 2022 series for A Level Mathematics (9709) and A Level Further Mathematics (9231)?
In the November 2022 series candidates must enter the correct A Level option in Mathematics (9709) or Further Mathematics (9231) to make sure that they have covered the correct combination of pure and applied topics required to achieve an A Level. This choice is determined by the AS Level portfolio of evidence they took in the June 2022 series. These options are shown in the tables below for the staged route options available in the November 2022 series. The same principles apply for best of both entry options.

What happens if my centre is moved to the portfolio of evidence route again in the November 2022 series?
If your centre is moved to the portfolio of evidence route again in the November 2022 series, candidates will need to submit an ‘A2’ portfolio of evidence to complete their A Level. Their best AS Level result from a previous series within 13 months of the November 2022 series will be carried forward. This AS Level result could be from exams, school-assessed grades or the June 2022 portfolio of evidence. We will determine the best AS Level result for the candidate by converting each AS Level result into uniform marks. There is more information about this process here.
