Cambridge held a ceremony in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday 5 December to celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of secondary school learners in the June 2023 Cambridge exam series.
Ninety-five learners in UAE received awards for exceptional performance in Cambridge exams, including 10 learners who achieved the highest marks in the world and 57 learners who attained the highest marks in UAE in a single subject. Over 320 guests attended the event, including award winners, their parents and teachers.
During the event, Sarah Saiger, Country Manager UAE for International Education at Cambridge expressed gratitude to four esteemed universities in the UAE that have generously extended scholarships to the award-winning students, ranging from full programme tuition to partial discounts. These universities are Curtin University Dubai, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, University of Birmingham Dubai and Middlesex University Dubai.
Cambridge’s Global Director for Climate Education, Christine Özden, also spoke to students at the ceremony about the vital role that education plays in combatting climate change. She said: 'Climate change is one of the biggest global challenges of our time. Education will be key in tackling it. We will need to understand what works locally as well as globally. It will mean listening carefully to how you, our learners, see the challenges and amplifying your voices in proposing solutions. You have the ability to change lives and to influence behaviours and attitudes.'
Christine was present at the event as one of the delegates from the Cambridge community attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world. Congratulations to all the winning students and their teachers for their hard work, dedication and success.
