On Monday 3 July, the UK and Spain signed a bilateral agreement on education cooperation that facilitates continued access to university. It will come into effect on Wednesday 2 August 2023.
This agreement enables students with UK qualifications (including A Levels and equivalents, such as Cambridge International AS & A Levels) to access universities in Spain without the need for the Spanish general university entrance exam. Additional entry requirements will only be necessary for certain competitive courses, as was the case prior to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
Cambridge International’s Global Recognitions team worked closely with the UK authorities to ensure that Cambridge qualifications were included in the agreement.
The signing of this agreement brings much-needed clarity for Cambridge schools in Spain, students and their families. The past few years have been difficult due to the uncertainty around access to Spanish universities, and we thank schools for their ongoing support. We are delighted that Cambridge students will be able to progress smoothly to universities in Spain.
Schools and students can find guidance on how to apply to Spanish universities with Cambridge qualifications on our Spain recognition pages.
