Students, their parents, teachers and principals on Wednesday 24 May gathered at Golden Conifer functions venue in Harare for the first Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards event since the pandemic. A total of 115 top-performing students from 39 schools across the country received 148 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in various subjects taken in Cambridge IGCSEs, Cambridge O Levels and Cambridge International AS & A Levels in 2022.
The top achievers included 10 ‘Top in the World’ category winners in subjects such as Cambridge IGCSE Drama, Cambridge International AS Level Chemistry and Cambridge International A Level Accounting, to name a few. Top in the World winners are learners who have gained the highest mark in the world for a single subject.
Juan Visser, Cambridge International’s Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa thanked everyone who played a part in the success of the learners: ‘To your families, teachers and friends, and everyone who has supported you on the journey, congratulations and well done. I know this is a big day for all of you, and you have all worked so hard for this moment. Thank you for choosing Cambridge to be part of this chapter of your lives and the beginning of your next chapters.’
The event was also graced by Roland Davies, Country Director, British Council Zimbabwe.
The Principal of High Achievers Coach Educational Centre, Dr Tapera Chikandiwa, had this to say about the winners from his school: ‘I am humbled and encouraged to be celebrating awards won by our learners. It is refreshing to note that Cambridge International recognises effort, not just intelligence. The academy does not stream learners, and those who won represented the efforts of all other learners with special needs. Our success is a result of priceless commitment by Cambridge in terms of learner, teacher and institutional support.’
All the students received certificates from Cambridge International in recognition of their achievements.
