How did you decide which subjects to specialise in at Cambridge International AS & A Level?

After taking my Cambridge IGCSEs I was not sure whether I wanted to pursue medicine or a more technical course at university. However, even my confusion reaffirmed that I enjoyed science and mathematics. To give me more time to decide my degree preference, I opted to study Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics at Cambridge International AS & A Level.

How did your Cambridge qualifications support your university application, and prepare you for life as an undergraduate?

Cambridge International A Levels are recognised by the University of Groningen which simplified the admissions process. My Cambridge qualifications also gave me an exemption for an additional English language exam required at the point of admission.

The Cambridge emphasis on research and self-study is helping me cope with demanding courses, and the qualifications also developed soft skills such as empathy, and how to work in a group. I believe that these skills were key to helping me settle into a new environment. Group project assignments also seem natural to me, helping me to achieve high grades.

What are your future career plans?

I aim to graduate with a first-class degree which will help me when I apply for a Master’s degree in a subject such as robotics or drone technology. It is too early for me to decide on a long-term plan as I want to look into different aspects of AI with an open mind, including the use of AI in medicine.

Would you recommend Cambridge qualifications to other students who want to go to university?

I would highly recommend Cambridge qualifications. Cambridge International AS & A Levels mentally prepare us for university life, and the depth of each subject curriculum is definitely a good base from which to start university study.
