Tell us a little about your time at Durban High School (DHS), a Cambridge International School
DHS has a rigorous curriculum that challenges students to reach their full potential. Teachers are knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about their subjects, and are always available to offer extra support and guidance when needed. I felt well prepared for tertiary education and the challenges that lay ahead.
At DHS you studied Cambridge programmes – what advantages did this give you?
The Cambridge curriculum is an excellent study programme and gives learners a solid foundation for further academic and professional success. By staying organised and motivated, taking advantage of resources and support, and being proactive, learners can make the most of their educational experience and achieve their goals.
A key benefit [of the Cambridge approach] is the emphasis on independent learning and research. I was encouraged to take responsibility for my own learning and to pursue my own interests within the curriculum framework. Above all, being a Cambridge learner has given me a sense of pride and accomplishment. I am part of a community of learners dedicated to academic excellence and lifelong learning.
Why did you decide to apply to US universities?

The USA is home to people from all backgrounds, and I will have the opportunity to meet individuals from different cultures and regions of the world, each with their unique perspectives and stories. The country is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and innovative technologies, providing a dynamic and exciting environment for those seeking to make an impact in their respective fields. I am also drawn to the natural beauty of the USA, and its cities offer unique cultural and artistic scenes, providing endless opportunities for exploration and enrichment.

How did your Cambridge qualifications support your Harvard application?
As an international student, my Cambridge qualifications were one of the primary ways in which I could demonstrate my academic abilities and potential to universities. Universities receive thousands of applications each year, and having strong Cambridge International qualifications helped me to stand out from the crowd and show my commitment to academic excellence.
How do you think your Cambridge qualifications will help you at university?
The Cambridge curriculum helped me develop key skills such as critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and effective communication, which are all essential for success at university. I was also exposed to a diverse range of subjects, allowing me to explore my interests and develop a broad base of knowledge that would serve me well in my future studies. My Cambridge studies also prepared me well for life in a new country - I feel confident in my ability to adapt to new environments, communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds, and manage my time and responsibilities.
