Additional guidance for the Cambridge Checkpoint results reports May 2023
The May 2023 Cambridge Checkpoint results reports are the first set of results assessing our new primary and lower secondary curricula. The reports will include our new grade thresholds and are based on the new strand and sub-strands. Cambridge Checkpoint reports will continue to give you information at the following levels:
- subject, strand, sub-strand and question
- school, teaching group and learner.
Changes to the Cambridge Checkpoint results reports
The Cambridge Checkpoint results reports for May 2023 have a number of changes that schools, teachers and learners need to be aware of.
We have introduced two changes to the Checkpoint reports.
- Cambridge Checkpoint scores are now on a new scale of 0 to 50 which means that all scores, including any average scores, will be reported as whole numbers on the 0 to 50 scale.
- New performance bands: Basic, Aspiring, Good, High and Outstanding. The performance band will be reported on the Statement of Achievement and included in specific areas of the Cambridge Checkpoint report.
We have produced a comprehensive FAQs document which explains the changes to Cambridge Checkpoint and Progression Tests. You can find full details on our primary and lower secondary support sites.
For more information, you can watch a recording of our recent webinar where we explain our new 0 to 50 Cambridge Checkpoint scoring scale in more detail. We have also produced a video that walks you through the changes to the reports.

Cambridge Checkpoint scores over time
In the section ‘Cambridge Checkpoint scores over time’, there are bar charts showing average Cambridge Checkpoint scores for your school in the subjects entered for the past five years. As the May 2023 series is the first time we have assessed the new curriculum and the first time that we have used the new 0 to 50 scoring scale we will not be showing results from any Cambridge Checkpoint examination series that took place before May 2023.
The below graph show the average score for your school in the subjects your school has entered for over the past 5 years. If you have entered candidates for Cambridge Checkpoint for less than 5 years, it will show the number of years’ data that have been recorded for your school.
You can use this table to compare your performance over time.
