Upasana Mahanta, PhD, is the Dean of Admissions and Outreach at O.P. Jindal Global University (OPJGU), India. In this role, she leads initiatives to make university admissions more accessible, prioritising the needs and aspirations of students while ensuring a smooth transition from school to university systems.
Dr Mahanta is also a professor at the Jindal Global Law School, where she teaches courses on political science, international relations, gender and conflict, and research methods. Her disciplinary background is in Political Science and International Relations, with a specialisation in women and gender studies. She has extensive experience in higher education, research and administration, with a focus on women in emergent political institutions, gendered understandings of conflict, and women’s resistance in insecure contexts.
Her scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books and opinion pieces. Prior to joining OPJGU, Dr Mahanta was a faculty member at the Centre for Women’s Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. She has also served in various leadership roles at OPJGU, including Director of the Office of Student Life and Cultural Engagement and Senior Additional Registrar.
Dr Mahanta earned her PhD from the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and was a Shastri Doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies, University of British Columbia, Canada.
