Matthew Linley is Director of the International Communications Office and an Advisor to the Vice-President (International Affairs) of Nagoya University. He previously served as Head of the Department of International Admissions from 2014 to 2022.
Matthew has played a pivotal role in the internationalisation of Nagoya University, helping develop the G30 International Programs – a suite of English-taught full-degree curricula. In his current position, he works to enhance global awareness of the University by leading a team that disseminates information in English about its research, education, and societal contributions.
Since 2014, Matthew has held the position of Designated Professor in the Global Engagement Center at Nagoya University. Born in Trinidad and raised in Canada, he received his Master of Laws (LLM) from Nagoya University in 2002 and his PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2009. His academic journey was supported by a MEXT scholarship (1998 to 2002) and by Japan Foundation fellowships in 1997 and 2006 to 2007.
